After a breakout year for NFT(s) in 2021, Apocalyptics Apes ended the year with a blockbuster sale of their collection on Christmas Day. 8,888 Apes were minted and sold over the Christmas Holidays. All this was possible with the help of monumental community support, an extremely talented artist, a relentless team, and a passionate founder–all of whom made this collection a success.
The Backstory
The story of Apocalyptic Apes begins with humans on planet Earth, utilizing resources in a wasteful manner. Due to their wasteful practices, world leaders have now become greedy. Ultimately, society broke down into chaos and war. Inevitably, all that was left was nuclear wasteland and the apes that emerged during these apocalyptic times.
Behind the back story, is a team that has a social cause associated with the project. From our understanding, the idea is to clean the world from waste, such as the plastic that covers our food or industrially produced water packaging. Information for this was gathered by participating in the project Twitter Spaces.
It is always a refreshing feeling to come across a project that has some sort of real world cause and that brings real meaning to the project, besides the aesthetics.
The Concept and Art
Apocalyptic Apes is a derivative of the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection on OpenSea. There are many similarities in the art from that collection; however, the artist of this project (Haddy The Creator) did a remarkable job of creating a unique theme for this one. Based on the feedback we received from the community, everyone seemed to have a common fondness for the art featured, including the team at NFTDistrict.
The unique part about Apocalyptics Apes is that the art is 100% hand drawn. Community members responsible for this project agree that Haddy The Creator manages to produce extremely creative, unique and beautiful artwork. Compared to other collections that use digital techniques, the ApocalypticApes features the characteristics of each avatar, thereby producing a significant appeal.
One of the most pivotal components of any NFT Art project is making sure that the artists can produce quality pieces of artwork–which people would enjoy! However, a majority of projects tend to stick with the digital route; they also cut back on costs by hiring low cost freelancers from platforms, such as Upwork and Fiverr. I believe Fity.eth did a good job by partnering with real talent like Haddy The Creator. It’s one of the cornerstones that has ensured that Apocalyptic Apes remains a success. The Community
Community is of immense importance for any NFT Project. For Apocalyptic Apes it’s one of the main reasons it reached the heights of success that we observed. Evidence for this can be viewed on their Twitter and Discord, as their support system is mindblowing! After consulting with the team, we discovered that they paid $0 for advertising. That’s right, $0 . Unlike expected, no influencers, no shilling, and no spamming was necessary. They simply took time to share their NFT Art, hold meaningful discussions on Twitter Spaces and let the community give feedback about the direction of the project along with its roadmap.
For many other projects, community seems to also be the difference between having a collection sell out or a mint flop on their launch day. Followed by later having to burn the un-minted NFTs, so that one could hopefully start getting floor price movement on secondary markets. The Apocalyptic Apes team took their time to build a tight knit community. Surprisingly, at any given time, their Twitter Spaces have several hundreds of people active. The activity in the Spaces alone had more activity than the Discord of several other projects that we have encountered. Whereas, the Discord platform for Apocalyptics Apes has an influx of activity at all times.
Community members are nice, enthusiastic and even eager to help educate, invite and empower others to participate, purchase an ape, or discuss the overall plans and activity of the project. All of this is very exhilarating to observe. All the team members, from the founders to the moderators, are extremely active on the Discord server. For an investor or collector (even flipper) this is always a welcome sight. The team is working around the clock to efficiently interact with community members, host voice chats and AMA, and even invite other NFT projects to collaborate.
What makes the Apocalyptic Apes community so unique?
This NFT collection can be differentiated from the others by the following ways:
The team, moderators, and other community members discovered an effective way to bring in NEW NFT investors, collectors, and enthusiasts. Since the overall culture of the community is to educate, teach, help and share, new members do not have the pretentious and high handed attitude of community members that is commonly observed in other NFT projects.. In this project, new members were able to ask questions freely, rather than being ignored or shunned.
Collaboration with other NFT projects: This seems to be a big miss for several other projects. However, the unique aspect about Apocalyptic Apes is that they work with other communities by co-hosting AMA’s with other project creators, artists, communities, and even run giveaways. In turn, this helps bring in an influx of new members fairly quickly. This collaboration also helps bridge multiple communities together. Don’t be surprised if you see other NFT projects that collaborated with Apocalyptic Apes succeed.
The team never self promotes. Anytime you are at an AMA event or in a Twitter Space, the team and moderators never try to sell their product, constantly talk about how good the project is, or how you need to invest right away. Under no circumstance will you be pressured to go and “ape” into the project — in comparison with other projects we have invested or participated in.
Twitter Spaces was an effective communication tool, used by the team and the community to allow everyone to bond over an array of different topics related directly or indirectly to Apocalyptic Apes.
Roadmap
Apocalyptics Apes does a great job of laying the foundation for continued success of their collection. Based on our participation and interaction in several Twitter Spaces, there is a merch store planned along with several sister collections that we believe will be based on the size and support of the existing community. More details regarding the roadmap is available on Discord and Twitter Spaces.
Roadmap from Apocalyptic Apes website
If you own three Apocalyptics Apes, you could mate them to create an endangered species . We believe that this has the potential to create a much rarer ape; thus, fetching higher floors than possibly the core collection ‘Apocalyptics Apes.’ In addition, there is a planned Queen Apes collection that is currently in the making. More details will be released this month.
Secondary Market Performance
With any project and after a successful mint, one of the most critical indicators of a project’s success is its secondary market performance.
Secondary Market Performance means once the collection hits a marketplace, such as Opensea post-mint, what will trading volume and activity look like?
When you mint on the projects website, you are essentially at the ground floor paying only the mint price + some gas fee. Once a collection has sold out or has burned unsold NFT from mint, they typically will land on a marketplace such as Opensea and Rarible e.t.c.
In the case of Apocalyptic Apes, trading volume on this collection has been strong.
Remember the mint price was 0.07 ETH + gas fees. The current floor has been extremely stable. As demonstrated below:
Apocalyptics Apes Floor Price
Along with the stable floor, there are constant trades from seconds to within minutes. As of 8:58 PM PST 1/3/2022, trading volume is still high.
Overall Conclusion
Apocalyptic Apes is a collection that we strongly believe has the potential to grow. With the addition of new developments and satellite projects, merch stores, incredibly strong community, the trading volume, and constant voice AMA’s with the team, the NFTDistrict feels that the floor will ultimately continue to rise. If you are on the fence about getting into Apocalyptic Apes, we think that the team and community, as well as the other (in)tangibles will satisfy most, if not all, of your requirements for an investment in this NFT.. As always this is not financial advice and always be sure to do your own research.
Overall, we rate Apocalyptic Apes a 9.5/10. If you are new to NFT investing and are considering this project, we don’t think you could go wrong.
